
HSE Scientists Test New Method to Investigate Mechanisms of New Word Acquisition
Researchers at the HSE Centre for Language and Brain were among the first to use transcranial alternating current stimulation to investigate whether it can influence the acquisition of new words. Although the authors of the experiment have not yet found a link between brain stimulation and word acquisition, they believe that adjusting the stimulation parameters may yield different results in the future. The study has been published in Language, Cognition and Neuroscience.

Twenty vs Ten: HSE Researcher Examines Origins of Numeral System in Lezgic Languages
It is commonly believed that the Lezgic languages spoken in Dagestan and Azerbaijan originally used a vigesimal numeral system, with the decimal system emerging later. However, a recent analysis of numerals in various dialects, conducted by linguist Maksim Melenchenko from HSE University, suggests that the opposite may be true: the decimal system was used originally, with the vigesimal system developing later. The study has been published in Folia Linguistica.

Faculty of Economic Sciences Publishes Survey of Graduates
The results of a survey conducted by the staff of the International Office among graduates of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at HSE University in May–June 2025 revealed some interesting patterns regarding the educational trajectories of FES students. A total of 90 bachelor's graduates and 103 master's graduates from FES participated in the survey, accounting for 18.9% of all respondents.

The results of HSE University’s Best Teacher 2025 voting have been published. As in previous years, the rankings were based on HSE students’ votes, alumni feedback, and the outcomes of the Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC).

AI and Chinese Culture Day: HSE University Welcomes Students and Postgraduates from Tsinghua University
In July 2025, HSE University hosted a group of young scholars from Tsinghua University. During their visit, they attended a lecture on the latest developments in artificial intelligence at the Faculty of Computer Science and held workshops for HSE students as part of Chinese Culture Day.

Winners of the 2025 International Olympiad in Informatics Enrol at HSE
Members of the Russian national team at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2025), gold and silver medal winners Petr Losev and Daria Grekova, have joined the Applied Mathematics and Information Science degree programme at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science.

HSE University Students and Postgraduates Take Part in Peking University International Summer School
In July 2025, Peking University hosted its annual Quantum Molecular Dynamics Summer School, which has moved onto an international stage. Its first foreign guests were students and postgraduates from the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). They took part in an extensive academic programme and had the opportunity to visit a laboratory that works with optoelectronic materials and energy devices.

HSE University Becomes Absolute Leader in AI Alliance Ranking of Universities
TheAI Alliance Russia has announced a new ranking of Russian universities based on the quality of education in the field of AI. A total of 203 universities from 68 Russian regions participated in the ranking. HSE University was the first to join the highest A++ group.
