The HSE Signs New Partnership Agreement with the University of Luxembourg

In February, 2014 the HSE Faculty of Economics launched a new era of academic cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg. The faculties signed an agreement about new double degree programmes. One of the main features of the new collaboration is the potential for student exchange, both at bachelor’s and master’s levels with an emphasis on master’s students in the area of Economics and Finance.

Every year, a number of Russian students will have the chance to pursue their second year of study in Luxembourg and then receive a diploma from the UL Master’s programme in Economics and Finance. The cooperation also provides for the possibility of reciprocal research and teaching visits from faculty members and researchers.

The HSE has been cooperating with the University of Luxembourg since 2007, when the partnership was mainly concerned with the field of law. In 2009 an official agreement between the HSE Faculty of Law and the UL Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance was signed.

Interest in developing cooperation has been high, especially following positive feedback from law students involved in the Luxembourg-Russia exchange. Since 2007 more than a dozen HSE law students have continued their studies at the University of Luxembourg, pursuing a Master’s in European Law and even a PhD in some cases.  The HSE students emphasised that studying abroad gave them a competitive edge in the job market and improved their language skills in French and English. Currently most of them are employed in international companies, while some are carrying on with their academic studies.
