HSE Becomes a Co-Organiser of the People of Artek International Campaign
The ‘People of Artek’ international contest is held annually by the Artek International Children’s Centre in Crimea. The contest is open to participants aged 12 to 17. In 2023, school students from 14 countries took part in the contest, with 69 of them visiting the Artek camp as winners.
This year it was Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov who launched the international campaign at the World Youth Festival. The campaign has been co-sponsored by HSE University.
‘Over many decades, Artek has built excellent traditions of friendship and solidarity, helping to solve the problems of young people from all over the world,’ noted Sergey Lavrov.
High school students aged 12–17 years and foreign school students from the following countries are all eligible to take part in the competition: Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Vietnam, India , Laos, Mongolia, Pakistan, Serbia, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Cuba, Nicaragua, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Congo-Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Zambia.
The goal of the campaign is not only to popularise Artek as the largest international children's centre, but also to develop skills in working in international teams and the ability to publicly present project activities to an international audience.
HSE will participate in the educational module, which will take place this summer at Artek and will focus on developing the creative and research potential of its participants. In 2023, foreign schoolchildren from 14 countries participated in the campaign, with 69 of them visiting Artek as winners, explained project coordinator Roman Romanov.

Andrey Zhulin, Vice Rector of HSE University, emphasized that ‘the particular importance of the campaign lies in its focus on shaping a common base of traditional values among new generations as the basis for successful cooperation in the future.’
