On March 6, Roland Franz, PhD Student, Universität Würzburg, Germany, will deliver a report on 'Phenomenological Sketchwork on the Relation between Pictoriality and Phantasy.' The event is organised by the Laboratory of Transcendental Philosophy.

Abstract:

The following presentation offers a set of phenomenological investigations into the possible structural relationships between image-consciousness (Bildbewusstsein) and phantasy (Phantasie). Drawing on the phenomenological framework developed by Marc Richir, and in dialogue with Eduard Marbach’s analyses of mental representation as well as Dieter Lohmar’s concept of weak phantasy (schwache Phantasie), the inquiry seeks to articulate the depth of the connection between these two modes of intentional life, with particular attention to the image-object (Bildobjekt) considered from the angle of its constitutive dimension of unreality (Unwirklichkeit).

Central to this investigation is the paradoxical structure of the image-object’s appearing: the overlapping and mutual implication of different ontological strata within a single perceptual presentation. The presentation does not aim at systematic closure but hopes to prepare the ground for a fruitful discussion of these problems.

Start time: 16:00
